The "San Francisco Images" gallery is devoted just to the City. The "Coast Images" gallery explores the coast and the coastal forest from the Avenue of the Giants to the Peninsula.
What makes a good black & white landscape photograph?
For a fine art black and white landscape photograph to be “good” in the eyes of most viewers, it must bring some drama to its composition. In a black and white landscape, there is only the subject, the perspective and the light. The vast interpretive power of color is not available, and often the subject -- land, water, sky, structure -- is not inherently very dramatic. While subject and perspective certainly are integral to the appeal of the composition of a black and white landscape, it is ultimately the photographer’s use of light that brings the drama, that evokes the strong, positive aesthetic response, the quiet "Oh, wow."
